WOW!  Where Did Summer Go?

Just like that, we are packed up and headed south!  Pretty sure it was just last week, two weeks ago max that we arrived back in Wellston.  It was an action-packed summer to be sure.  We squeezed in His and Hers physical therapy visits, multiple doctor visits (pretty sure it is a rule somewhere that once you reach 60, you have to add at least one new doctor per year!), one cataract surgery, and a procedure.  Travel wise – no trip to Oshkosh or the UP, but a quick weekend trip to Hillman, MI, and a 60th Airport High School class reunion for Bill.  Bill was able to fly more this year in our airplane.  We both retired from Civil Air Patrol in June.  Betty was able to lead water aerobics and add some Ai Chi classes.  She also attended a couple craft (mostly knitting) events.  We capped off the summer on Monday with a Thelma and Louise road trip that included ice cream, a greenhouse/craft store/mini aviary, and Cops and Doughnuts.  Special blessings included new friends, another cat, and lessons in grace.

We packed up this morning and pulled out amid the beautiful fall colors.  Michigan is certainly beautiful this time of year.  Officially – by the numbers – odometer 119019, wheels rolling at 1000 hrs.  Arrived at Sterling State Park at 1500 hrs, odometer 119281.  262 miles.  Traffic not bad, weather gorgeous, cats did…okay.

Highly recommend Sterling State Park in Monroe Michigan.  It has full hook-up pull through sites, large park, lots of spaces empty this time of year.  The lotus beds are obviously done for the season and one of the walking trails is closed for repairs.  The drive into the park is long and the road, while paved, is rough.  It’s worth it, though.  The beach area is well-kept, and the views are lovely.  Fair amount of wildlife present.  Another note – if travelling I75 – I96 – I275 – fill up before you get on I96 or wait until the Monroe area (if you are towing) – truck stops were not plentiful.
