Time To Catch Up!
We are still on the road…just haven’t been able to update the blog. Here is a recap:
16 October – 242 miles, 5.5 hours driving time. We left Sterling State Park in Monroe, MI and headed southwest. Traveled through Ohio and into Indiana. The Indianapolis North KOA Holiday Campground was home for the night. An okay stopping point – the campground itself had some space and terrain challenges.
17 October – 282 miles, 5.5 hours driving time. We passed through Indiana, Kentucky, and landed in Goodlettsville Tennessee at the Nashville North campground. Sites were small – many full-time/long-term residents that were very friendly. Apparently, they have live music on the weekends. We warped into Central Time, cats warped with us but had no interest in the one hour time difference. We spent the day on I-65 – a very bumpy ride (even by Michigan standards) until somewhere around Elizabethtown KY.
18 October – 290 miles – 6.5 hours driving time. As mentioned, the cats did not reset their internal clocks. Instead of starting their wake-up rituals at 5:00am, it was 4:00am. Joy. We passed through Tennessee and into “Sweet Home Alabama”. Still on I-65 with better road conditions overall. We stopped for the night at Milbrook Station Campground – aka – The Rendezvous Station Campground in Milbrook, AL. With such a proper name, you would expect….more. This was a very utilitarian RV park(ing) lot. Made last night’s campground look spacious. Sites super close, hook-ups were very tired. The highlight was the camp host – she was helpful, friendly, and offered information about local highlights. We went to supper at the Catfish House on her recommendation. Have no idea how the catfish was, but Bill enjoyed his scallops and I really liked the cold boiled shrimp. Especially tasty shrimp-boil seasonings on large, firm shrimp. All meals came with their “Set-Up” – delicious white beans (like soup beans), fresh homemade coleslaw, and cornbread/hushpuppies.
October 19 – 247 miles – The campground was quiet, until about 4:00am when a storm blew through the area. Then at 7:00, the large church next door started rocking – guessing they have a contemporary service based on the rhythm and sound coming from that direction. We delayed our departure by about an hour to let the rain pass through. Immediately south of Montgomery, we left I-65. Most of our travel was on 231today, slower speeds and pleasant scenery. We left Alabama and warped into Florida. Our home tonight is Lamont, FL at A Stone’s Throw campground. It is a stones throw from I-10 – literally. We are sitting here listening to the traffic, could watch it if we chose to. Unusually, it is very empty tonight. This is a frequent stop for us, both coming and going. It is convenient with easy access from I-10. Today was a rough travel day for the cats. Iris was very hissy and threw paws at Ebony whenever she could. Ebony is so mellow – he just slept in my lap. I know they will be happy tomorrow when we pull into Naval Station Mayport. They will be even happier when they wake up and don’t have to get back in the truck on Tuesday morning.
