We arrived safely at Naval Station Mayport on Monday, Oct 20. It was a short travel day – 171 miles. Overall, we were blessed with great travel weather, and tolerable traffic. Event-wise, we only had one stop along the expressway (I-65) when our rear left jackstand decided to shear a pin. The ugly part about that is the fact that it is adjacent to the traffic and had to be wired up for travel. It’s sad to see the number of people that won’t change lanes for a stopped vehicle.
The cats are delighted. They have pretty much slept since arrival, except for some nocturnal play episodes. I think they are starting to trust us again and not run for cover in the morning after breakfast – since that is when they had to be put in their carriers.
It’s Wednesday, and we are still in the process of “setting up camp” for the winter. We are eagerly anticipating the arrival of our friends that arrive from various and assorted states. The beach here is as lovely as always and the weather is a delight. We are keeping an eye on the weather just in case. Hurricane season finishes November 30/December 1.
Praying that we won’t have to add anymore “On the road” posts until April!
Just a couple of notes:
- Don’t stop at Buc-ees while pulling a fifth wheel. The fuel savings is not worth the headache of navigating the lot, and the people are just bizarre. Yes, it’s a cool place in theory – but, no. Not for us!
- Back in Florida – watch out for fire ants, alligators, snakes, and red lights.
- Red Lights in Florida – have to remember that a red light means at least 3 cars will proceed through the intersection before it is safe to trust a green light.
