Winter is Coming – We are Traveling!

It’s time for us to fly south – seems like just yesterday we were headed north back to Michigan.  We left our Michigan base campground on Saturday.  Sterling State Park was our destination – “the usual”.  This is an important stop on the north and south bound trip.  We visit with friends that are our extended family in Monroe and take a trip down memory lane (AKA North Custer Drive).  Frances celebrated her 100th birthday this year, and we treasure our visits with her and her family.  The state park is large and was quite busy this visit – a joy to see so many living the camping life.  Watching the sun rise over Lake Erie is a lovely way to start each day, and strolling through the park watching the deer is the perfect end to the day.  Highly recommend Sterling State Park!

Our next stop was Georgetown, KY.  We’ve discovered the absolute joy in embracing the journey instead of the tension of “get there-itis”.  Two days in Monroe, and two days in Georgetown.  Today, we played tourist and explored The Ark Encounter.  If you’re not familiar with it, search it out on your favorite internet search engine.  We opted not to do the Creation Museum – good choice because we didn’t finish the Ark Encounter.  It’s more than a one-day experience!  Touring the Ark and walking through the zoo was our limit.  Bill treated me to a mining adventure – he purchased a bag of dirt/stones/gems – and we used a sifter and water to search for treasures.  Honestly – we had more fun than the kids that were doing it with their parents!  Seeing the Ark, I realize that the Noah story I relate to is the childhood tale we learned in Sunday School, VBS, and our children’s Bible.  You know – a cute little boat full of animals that we can see in the zoo.  This remarkable experience challenges every misconception known to my brain.  I believe in the creation story, and to see a life-size representation of the ark along with the logistics involved is mind-boggling.

Here in Georgetown, we stayed at Whispering Hills campground.  The map has you taking the Sadieville exit off I75 and traveling about 9 miles.  Quite an exciting little side trip – there are no shoulders on the road, twisty, turny, upsy-downsy and hilly.  Yeah, not recommended.  Bill suggests taking the next exit south and backtracking a bit.  Highly recommend The Ark Encounter, jury is still out on the campground!
