We woke up this morning without an alarm. Bill was able to fully enjoy his coffee, and I started my day with a 2-mile walk, and a “No Excuses” workout. Piper was treated to two walks prior to departure. On the road time was precisely 1100 – which allowed us to enjoy a bit of the lovely morning in Escanaba.
Back on “2”, the scenery was lovely – lush and green, with many different wildflowers blooming on the roadside. Leaving Escanaba, we entered mining country.
One of our roadside stops was at Fumee Falls, a rest area along 2 – and a favorite stop for Thelma and Louise road trips. It was fun to show Bill our special stop. I resisted the temptation to engage in the eco relocation program that Thelma and Louise are known for engaging in. We enjoyed watching a young family picnicking at the site with the family dog – kids and dog getting much pleasure out of playing in the water and mud, and hunting frogs.
Next stop was a rest area claiming to be the first roadside park/rest area in the state.
Our final stop for the day is Curry Park in Ironwood.
We have transitioned into CST, traveled 182 miles today, and were parked and set up by 1515. Supper and work were dispensed with in short order. Bill and I walked into town for a short bit of exploring – 3 miles round trip. We are staying here tomorrow and will explore the town in depth.
The sunset this evening was beautiful!
Miles today: 182. Total miles: 501.
