After a lovely sleep-in morning, we set off to explore Acadia NP and Bar Harbor. Our bus tour started at 1400 hrs., the first stop was atop Mount Cadillac. The view is breathtaking. Mount Cadillac is the highest point on the East Coast shoreline – and the day was perfect – clear and visibility unrestricted. We then followed the Loop Road around the island, with our final stop at Thunder Hole. This is an area along the beach where the waves crashing into the rocks occasionally create a sound like thunder.
We sat on the rocky area in front of the Thunder Hole and watched the waves crashing – it was mesmerizing. I am hoping to be able to go and spend more time there. I have the feeling that I could spend many days and still not tire of the view. Tomorrow will likely be spent exploring the smaller portion of Acadia by Schoodic. Perhaps more of Acadia on Sunday before we set off towards Massachusetts.
Returning from the bus tour, we walked through Bar Harbor and along the water. This blog is on the shorter side – simply because it’s hard to find the words to adequately describe the beauty.
This lovely day ended with a campfire.
47 miles today – staying local.
