Talk about a lazy, relaxed start! We took our time, took a little walk, and were on the road about 1040 hrs. Travel today was nothing short of delightful! Minimal traffic, and the GPS took us on County Roads and State Highways. Very scenic drive and at less than expressway speeds.
We arrived at Fort Rucker (Go Army!) and pulled into our campsite at Engineer Beach Campground on Lake Tholocco at 1440 hrs. This is a hidden gem! The campground is gorgeous – peaceful, quiet and serene. We do anticipate helicopter flight training noise and air traffic tomorrow since this is the training facility for Army aviation.

We have visited this base twice in the recent past for very brief episodes to meet Walter for short visits. Our first impression of the campground is very encouraging. The possible downsides seem to be lack of good cell service for internet (however, this was true at Pensacola as well), and no cable or wifi at the campground. Gee – just like an old-fashioned campground! Looking forward to exploring more tomorrow. We heard from Walt today – sounds like everything is progressing well, and he anticipates graduation on Tuesday. We should be able to see him on Tuesday afternoon.
Miles traveled – 154.
